Two crystals of similar natures that the Vespids of the Verdant Hive grow and tend to, the crystals glow with internal light that is shed out across the caverns, producing what acts as true sunlight and true moonlight.
Sun Crystals
These bright crystals spread out true sunlight, able to blind, damage certain undead, tan the skin, and grow plants, however because they do not dim, not all plants can survive untended under the light of the Sun Crystals. With the Vespids gone, their tight grip on the sun crystals are no more. Indeed, now that that grip has slackened, it becomes clear that Melora's control had more of an impact that just on the economy. Liberation of the sun crystals brings on a new wave of liveliness from the plants as the light shines brighter than ever before. It seems Melora was suppressing the full power of the sun crystals, making the plants more somnolent and lethargic.
Moon Crystals
These silvery crystals spread out true moonlight, able convert Therainthropes, recharge magic items and other effects tied to true moonlight, however because they do not wax and wane their power is constant in any given area.
Creation and Maintenance
The growth of crystals is a well kept secret among the Vespids, those who are chosen as crystal tenders must meet three primary criteria. They must be able to fly, they must be trained in druidic arts, and they must be able to produce propolis. Those chosen to become Crystal Tenders are then trained with the additional rituals and skills required to create the Crystals.
The crystals are made of a crystal bud pulled from an existing crystal and a unique propolis-like resin which is partially prepared in advanced to adhere the crystal to its new home. Druidic magic that creates true sunlight and true moonlight to feed energy and light into the crystals via ritualistic casting, converting the propolis as the crystal grows, and taking on the properties of true sunlight or moonlight. These crystals, once established can be grown by providing additional propolis and infused with magic rituals.
When it is time to grow more crystals, another ritual is used to bud an existing crystal, to be used to establish a new growth. The original method for creating the first crystals is unused, as it takes fifty years to grow a single crystal of any value without a bud to transplant.
