Temple of the Faceless Gods
Temple of the Faceless Gods
The Temple of the Faceless Gods serves as a religious hub for the countless faiths that populate Paradisium, a place where the followers of all gods can find a suitable place to conduct their rituals and prayers, especially the smaller ones that do not have their own dedicated temple. As a dedicate holy site, there is also an unspoken agreement between the denizens of the dungeon that no violence take place inside it, making it a favored shelter and resting place for adventurers in the depths.
Upon entering, one finds themselves in a large circular chamber, with granite pillars reaching upwards to support a tall, vaulted roof. In the center, a few steps descend into a pool of fresh water, with a life-sized marble statue in the middle. It depicts two mysterious figures back to back, one male and one female, each wearing loose robes and with a hood that obscures their facial features. Junior priests of various faiths can often be found lingering here, awaiting pilgrims who may seek out the miracles of their gods and the chance to make converts associated with it.
The main attraction of the temple however are the two dozen shrines that are accessible through arched doorways leading away from the central chamber. By some ancient magics or strange benediction, these simple shrines morph when a faithful enters them for the first time, pulling from their subconscious beliefs to take the shape of what they expect a shrine of their deity to look like, complete with layout, decorations, and even common tools of ceremony. Everything one might require to accomplish their favored rites. With one exception - Any depiction of their god, weather painted on a fresco, carved in stone, or any other art, shows only a blank slate where their face would be. A reminder, some say, that the shrine is not truly theirs, but only borrowed. When the faithful leaves the shrine, it returns to it's previous, unadorned and neutral state, ready for the next person to make it into a place befitting their faith.
For the Gods of Paradisium this place is considered neutral grounds for the recruitment of followers.
One shrine in particular has earned a reputation among adventurers. The one known as Wanderer's Inn.
