Runar Hansen

From Paradisium Wiki

Age Unbelievably Old Gender, Pronouns Male, He/Him Type NPC; Shopkeeper

General traits: Aloof, unfocused, hyperfocused, chill, hyper

Mannerism: Focused on his tasks, on journals or experiments or measurements, doesn't really focus on people that well outside of study.

Speech patterns: Either hyper focused on a topic that interests him, or somewhat dismissive of who ever is bothering. Either way, very casual.

Speech example: "Oh, right, yeah its somewhere on that shelf." "Huh, no that's not something I bother with."

"You know, if we combine a bit of goblin blood with this mixture it should be able to stabilize the transformation, you might actually wind up a few few shorter permanently. Of course it could also just turn your skin green, but then the nature of the locals is purple, where did you source this from again? Never mind, here, if I add this and this to the base... two to one mixture, see how it is changing color, quickly now, I need to note what happens."

Bond: Cares deeply for Sophie "VanillaBloom", though he will never phrase it that way. Considers her the best of them, has trouble really considering anyone else 'close'. Considers Nubia a fine partner to work with, glad she takes care of a number of the issues.

Quirk: He will constantly be working on some sort of research or project, and has no qualms sitting on the floor to write in his journals, or draw chalk outlines, test potions, or otherwise focus on his passions.

Values: He would not tolerate anyone who bothers, harasses, or harms Sophie. Anyone who is dismissive or rude about wanting to change their body will also meet his ire.

Secret/Hook: He is always looking for odd potential ingredients to test, and subjects to tests them on.

Greeting: "Huh, oh, right, guess you want something?"

Reactions:

What does this character do when - (Any other key reactions welcome)

Threatened: Tends to not care, though he seems young, he is not, he is a wizard, he is powerful, and it is too easy for folks to forget that. (If he even notices the threats.)

Flirted with: Oblivious, if it gets overly aggressive or direct, will just tell them to find someone who will be interested.

Asked for help: If it is for help for something that bores him, if it is unimportant he will just say no, or dismiss the request. If it is important/big, he will accept begrudgingly. If it is something that catches his interest, he might go overboard helping.

Runar is smart, but he cares about what he cares about right now, he can often be found studying, working on new magic, mixing up some new potion or chasing some idea. His store is a place to share his ideas and discoveries, and the fact that it is work that gets him dezzies to live is more of an inconvenient.

He is smart enough to do all the math of shopping in his head, he is lazy enough that he enchanted a leger so that he only needs to scratch a few symbols for each item to have it calculate for him. It is easier to dress, then use magic to strip, then to try to folder or hang clothes properly.

He has no qualms about what people want to look like and enjoys the challenge of transformation potions, a crowning achievement being the Potion of Gender Change, not only because it was difficult, it was perfected, but because he helped someone he cares about.

Runar can come across as not caring about people, but he does. He doesn't find people sexually desirable, but he enjoys the sensations of sex, but the real way he engages is sex as a means to experiment or collect information. He tries to avoid confrontation, which can leave to him selling products that are inappropriate, as long as it moves the person on. He will not intentionally cause harm, but not go out of his way to stop others for being stupid if it means being confronted or confrontational.

Sophie is, honestly, his best friend, and probably the only reason he eats any sort of reasonable meals. He isn't interested in dating, and while he is interested enough to listen to stories, he doesn't really engage with stories, which also makes him seem cold.

If you get him talking on something he is currently interested in, I think he would take off, get into details, talking to himself to sort out his ideas, but getting a dismissive response or just, no sign of understanding will clam him up again to avoid pushing it.

Appearance Race Appears Human

World Anvil Traansfer BIO

Runar seems like an intelligent young man, and will be the first to tell whoever asks, to believe what you see is meaningless. His mind always seems to be in three places at once, if not more, and while he will readily answer questions, he will not hide his distain for those who would waste his time. Sexually, he uses the act to fuel powerful magics, the magic being released in the ritual being ways to bring pleasures.

BONUS

Has a deep fondness for Sophie, and created the magics required to help her be seen for who she is, and has refined them down to spells. Despite his non-sensical way of ordering things, he can always find what he needs with ease since it is perfectly ordered to him, meanwhile, he has a no real head for business, and relies on Sophie to manage his bookkeeping, once she caught up with him.

NOTES

If you ever need any sort of guidance on playing Runar: at least is to compare him with Hal form hal's moving castle.

For those unfamiliar (and hopefully I am not misremembering) kind, generous, doesn't really care if things are natural or not. (Perfect for someone who dabbles with so many transformation items.)

Can be very good heart and forgiving, patient, polite. Will not hesitate to duck out, avoid, or otherwise leave any sort of situation he doesn't want to be a part of instead of fighting or arguing.

As noted, not great with money or business.

Brilliant, but probably a little airheaded when it comes to more practical, everyday things. I think we all know that kind of guy. Smart as hell, but you sometimes wonder how he manages to tie his shoes in the morning

has multiple spell books filled to make scrolls, and, look, bra straps are difficult. Gesture, speak a word, and ignore that.

Believed to have made Instant Disrobing as much to strip his clothes as to get others naked. (After all, SO much easier to just pull on clothes, then cast the spell then try to figure out how to actually fold a shirt.) Though your mileage may vary on that one.

Runar is ambidextrous. Probably ambidextrous with a preference to whatever is easier since he last picked a hand.

Will give 'discounts' (not charge) for items used in experiments, even if it winds up giving the subject what they wanted. However, since these are experiments, the end results should never just be a replication of a spell or potion that he would otherwise sell. All experimental mixtures and events will be documented. They should be relatively consistent, but with some variance if done in different ways. If it is a well tested combination or event, it is boring, and no longer worth testing. Whatever the customer does, they should not tell Sophie about the discount.

Runar, when posting messages, does not do well bothering with explanations. Same with explaining what is necessary, a fatal flaw in assuming if he gets it, clearly it is explained well enough.
