Drachen Meadows
Description
Rolling hills of waist-high grass, dotted with purple, yellow, and pink flowers; seaside cliffs, mountains on the horizon, and the shadows of fell beasts swooping overhead are all staples of the meadows. The sight stretches on for miles. The place is as dangerous as it is beautiful now that the dragons are here.
History
Initially undesired by many, the Draycour Peaks and the surrounding wasteland proved the perfect nesting spot for an unusual pair - the red dragon Firras and the yellow dragon Lilith. Their presence quickly started to change the environment around them; Firras’ innate heat and fire banished the cold, while Lilith’s arrival - heralded by a sandstorm - enriched and nourished the barren ground with minerals. Now crops, cattle, and people thrive in the area under the protective wings of the two Ancient Dragons and the light of a white-hot ball of fire.
At first glance a ‘sun’ illuminates the meadows and village, but the continuously swirling torrent of white-hot flame sitting high above the settlement is actually a large captured ball of Firras's breath. The flame, contained by a barrier constructed with Lilith's arcane might and skill, provides warmth and light similar to a sun but presents no inherent danger to those with a natural aversion to sunlight. Morning is heralded by the heavy beating of wings as Firras flies to breathe life into the pseudo-sun, starting the day bright and early. Night comes as the flames fade to embers.
At the edges of the meadows sits a mountain range inhabited by dragons who have either made their home there, or would rather not test the power of Firras and Lilith. Meanwhile, the waves of the stormpirate seas crash against the bottom of the cliffs with the broken hulls of many a ship being found dashed among the rocks, left as examples for those who would try to take from the dragons.
Known Layout
The Drachen Meadows consist of:
- The Meadows: The rolling green hills giving the area its name.
- Splinterwood Village: Located in the Meadows, this village is home to those who prefer to live undisturbed by do-gooders. The village is situated at the foot of Draycour Peaks, protected by Lilith and Firras' presence.
- The Drachen Wilds: Ragged mountain peaks and deep valleys are home to many dragons, drakes, and other draconic creatures. This is a dangerous area to explore.
Rules/Laws
- This area has one important rule: Knights in Shining Armour will be swiftly dealt with and disposed off. No heroic antics or freeing of slaves.
Notable Locations
- Splinterwood Townsquare: Home to the weekly market and sometimes slave auctions.
- Firestone Buns & Bread: A bakery run by Dragonborn Ciral and Tiefling Patience.
- Draycour Peaks: Lilith and Firras' Lair, accessible only by invitation, or through the visitor's area, where the dragons display some of their favourite pieces from their hoard. Guests are invited to leave offerings as gifts to add to the treasure - unique or storied items from their homes - which may curry favour with the dragons.
