Divinity in the Dungeon

From Paradisium Wiki

Divinity in the Dungeon Once worshipped as a goddess in her own right, the Mistress was a presence that loomed large in dungeon history. Though she never spoke directly, never appeared, and offered no miracles known to be her, her influence was undeniable. Temples have stood in her name. Cults have offered her devotion. She was a mystery made holy, believed to be the source of the dungeon’s strange sexuality and corrupting influence, its isolation from home planes, and the silencing of divine influence. An entity in the depths of the dungeon, that many believed the dungeon itself was built to contain and imprison.

In truth, she was no goddess. She was an anomaly. A force. A metaphysical gravity well buried in the heart of the dungeon, pulling divinity inward and holding it fast.

For centuries, she suppressed the gods native, and kept out the gods external, distorting their reach, muting their voices. Divine magic, once nonexistent, began to trickle in first. Then more recently was the stabilization of teleportation magic. All the result of a quiet campaign by Gothica, a shoggoth who worked from within to isolate and unravel the Mistress's influence over time. To cure the dungeon, of this metaphysical snarl.

Now the last of that power has fallen. The Mistress has been erased. Her pull gone, her silence broken.

The gods, those native to the dungeon and those from distant planes, can now reach into the dungeon. Native deities stir from the lower depths. External gods from various other dimensions cast their power down like light through fog. Divine magic flows freely for the first time in recorded history.

With the Mistress’s restraint lifted, the dungeon has begun to drift, no longer anchored to a single realm by her stagnant hold. It moves unpredictably through the multiverse. Occasionally, surfaces appear. Brief, unstable windows to other planes. The adventuring guild sends patrols out, uncertain of what they’ll find, or what might come in.

That said, the dungeon remains hard as ever to truly escape. Legend holds that there's a ritual to finally sever yourself from the dungeon's influence, be left behind on a surface plane, but if not no matter how hard you may try to stay behind the dungeon holds tight to its quarry. Like a rubber band, you will be snapped back.
