Cozy Caverns
Over view
In the outskirts of Market Town a tunnel somewhere near Salamander Springs worms it’s way through the stone. Following it’s claustrophobic path one arrives in an open chamber with an impressive iron gate of seemingly dwarven make, opened wide for any who are friendly to enter. Passing though you are faced with an incredible sight. A generously large and gentle sloping path circling around a cylindrical pit, lit up by the tender glow of multicolored glow-oil lanterns. The structure is obviously artificial with each surface worn smooth from the passage of time, but evidence of intricate spiral engravings remain. This spiraling structure is called the Spiralway and it’s origins remain shadowed in rumor and myth. Looking over the secure railing one can see that this path must go down for hundreds of feet, it’s form appearing like a mesmerizing spiral illuminated by beautiful stars. Throughout the path and carved into the outer wall is a myriad of houses, humble shops and places for folks to gather. Speaking of the locals the “street” bustles with activity, goblins, kobolds and dwarves make up the majority of the population, but just like everywhere else in the Dungeon people of all shapes and sizes live here. If one wants to escape the busy community center you need not look far, quite frequently what appear to be natural caverns attach to the spiraling path, these trails lead to grottos which are often filled with lush mushroom gardens and calming subterranean waterfalls. These tunnels have a homely feel, illuminated by the pleasant luminescence of the various mushroom species and it is these grottos that the Cozy Caverns gets it’s name from. The people of the Cozy Caverns are are mixed bunch, but almost universally pleasant and add to the cozy atmosphere. Those who perform acts that violate the sanctity of this trust are quickly punished as the community stands united in protecting the wholesome values of their society.
Law & order
Though the maintenance of order and the enforcement of rules remains a community effort there are some institutions of respected (but informal) authority. The COCK (the council of civic kobolds) and the GOCK (the goblin order of cooperative kindness) are two of such authorities, these civil committees act as a more formal means to discuss issues that arise and as places to propose new community projects. Along with these two committees there is a third respected power, the Ral family.
House of Resolutions
The House of Resolutions is well-worn tavern built into the outer wall half-way down the Spiralway. The tavern is well appointed with comfy furnishings as it stands as the beating heart of the community. Entering through it's saloon-like doors one is greeted to a lively feast-hall alit by the comfy glow of mushroom-oil lanterns. It's stunted tables brimming with the often short, rowdy and flirtatious locals who exchange humorous banter amongst eachother. The establishment is run by the Ral family and it's basement consists of a brewery made to dwarven specifications. All manner of alcoholic beverages from mushroom wines to jelly meads are served here in great abundance, not to mention the staggering variety of delicious ways mushrooms and cave fish are prepared and served here. On the upper level is the "Committee Chamber" where members of the COCK and GOCK gather in an oratory theatre to engage in often inadvertently humorous discussions of politics and policy. This chamber is also where judgments against those who break the taboos are held along with all other matters of communal importance. Any member of the community can voice their opinions freely within the Committee Chamber as decision making is done by popular consensus.
